چکیده

The intrinsic complexity of self-organising multiagent systems calls for the use of formal methods to predict global system evolutions at early stages of the design process. In particular, we evaluate the use of simulations of high-level system models to analyse properties of a design, which can anticipate the detection of wrong design choices and the tuning of system parameters, so as to rapidly converge to given overall requirements and performance factors. We take abnormal behaviour detection as a case, and devise an architecture inspired by principles from human immune systems. This is based on the TuCSoN infrastructure, which provides agents with an environment of artefacts—most notably coordination artefacts and agent coordination contexts. We then use stochastic π-calculus for specifying and running quantitative, large-scale simulations, which allow us to verify the basic applicability of our ID and obtain a preliminary set of its main working parameters.

Exploring the Dynamics of Self-Organising Systems with Stochastic π-Calculus: Detecting Abnormal Behaviour in MAS

The intrinsic complexity of self-organising MASs (multi-agent systems) makes it difficult to predict global system evolutions at early stages of the design process. Simulating high-level models to analyse properties of a MAS design can anticipate detection of incorrect / wrong design choices, and allow tuning of system parameters. In this paper, we take abnormal-behaviour detection as a case st...

Perspective of MAS in Power System via a Fuzzy Framework

Multi agent systems (MAS) are popularly used in practice, however; a few studies have looked at MAS capabilities from the power engineering perspective. This paper presents the results of an investigation concerning the compatibility of MAS capabilities in different power engineering categories. Five MAS capabilities and seven power system categories are established. A framework for applying MA...

Engineering Self-Organising Emergent Systems with Simulation-based Scientific Analysis

The goal of engineering self-organising emergent systems is to acquire a macroscopic system behaviour solely from autonomous local activity and interaction. Due to the non-deterministic nature of such systems, it is hard to guarantee that the required macroscopic behaviour is achieved and maintained. Before even considering a self-organising emergent system in an industrial context, e.g. for Au...

Engineering the Environment of Self-organising Multi-agent Systems Exploiting Formal Analysis Tools

We briefly discuss about the role of the environment in a selforganising system and how to apply self-organisation principles to build a multi-agent system (MAS) environment. We describe a design methodology for complex systems featuring emergent properties: our approach mainly relies on the use of formal analysis tools and languages in order to provide better guarantees of effective global sys...

Designing Self-organising MAS Environments: The Collective Sort Case

Self-organisation is being recognised as an effective conceptual framework to deal with the complexity inherent to modern artificial systems. In this article, we explore the applicability of self-organisation principles to the development of multi-agent system (MAS) environments. First, we discuss a methodological approach for the engineering of complex systems, which features emergent properti...
